Give me a clue?
CLUES (Clinically Useful Enquiry System) provides a network solution for managing Mental Health based patient encounter and correspondence records spread across Dorset Healthcare's multiple servers and locations. However, because the existing files shares are hidden due to the sensitive data they contain, users found it difficult to choose where data should be saved OR found, especially if the network path to the record is unknown.
The WCI approach was to use the search and indexing capabilities of SharePoint 2007. A dedicated content source comprising all CLUES file share paths was set up and a suitable crawling schedule devised to search sources both inside and outside MOSS. In addition, WCI used managed code to build a custom search webpart that contained fields and dropdowns appropriate to the needs of CLUES users.
Key benefits for this new facility is the reliable location of patient information - especially if it's misplaced. This is improving the availability of information to support patient care.
Dr Geoff Searle, Consultant Psychiatrist, Crisis Home Treatment Team, East Dorset, sees this as an aid to service improvement being able to locate records on very flexible / customised searches and "now that we have it we don't know how we got by without it. A rare computer system that everybody likes and which does a lot more than we ever thought it would"
